Merve Kayan, born in 1981, grew up in Uzunköprü, Turkey. She has been making films and videos since 1999. Having spent the last few years as a video editor in New York, currently she is pursuing her masters in fine arts at University of California, San Diego.

I am interested in mundane moments in which the absurdities of the everyday spontaneously reveal themselves. Through a merger of fictional and documentary elements, I am currently working on a series of cine essays about locations which hold their inhabitants temporarily. These transitional spaces often deliver a transformed temporary version of life, accommodating the ordinary and the fantastical at once.
